About

Tombstone Begins is NoLimit City's latest entry in the long-running Tombstone series, and it takes a noticeably different direction from its predecessors. Where Tombstone RIP and Slaughter pushed volatility and winning potential to extremes, Begins strips things back, a more restrained, approachable slot that still carries the series DNA.

It runs on a lopsided 4-5-5-5-4 grid with 22 paylines and high volatility, built around a Revolver mechanic that fires bullets across the board to trigger wilds, multipliers, upgrades, and more. The RTP sits at 96.02%, and the maximum win is capped at 20,000x the bet.

Tombstone Begins Bonus Features

Tombstone Begins packs a revolver's worth of features into its base game and free spins. Everything revolves around the Revolver mechanic, literally, with bullets firing across the grid to trigger a range of effects that can reshape a spin entirely.

Win Respins

Every win in Tombstone Begins triggers a respin. Winning symbols lock in place and stay sticky for the duration, and if the respin brings in a new winning symbol type, a wild, a scatter, or a Revolver, those lock in too and the respins keep rolling. Payouts are only calculated once the respins come to an end.

Revolver Symbol

Revolvers can land on any reel and arrive loaded with three to six bullets. One bullet fires per spin, and each bullet can target regular pay symbols or wilds and trigger one of the following effects:

  • Wild: The targeted symbol transforms into a wild.
  • xSplit: Doubles the multiplier value of the targeted symbol.
  • Upgrade: The targeted symbol, along with every other instance of it on the grid, upgrades to a higher-value symbol. Cannot hit the top-paying symbol.
  • xNudge Wild: Fires above reels 2 to 4. Once activated, the xNudge Wild nudges into full view on the reel when no respins remain, with each nudge step adding 1 to the win multiplier.
  • xNudge Multiplier: Also targets above reels 2 to 4 at random. If an xNudge Wild activates on the same reel, its multiplier increases by x2 to x100. These values are additive.
  • Random: Converts into a random bullet type upon firing. If no valid target exists, the bullet fires without effect.

Unleash and Refill Symbols

Two special symbols can shake up the Revolver mechanic mid-spin. The Unleash symbol forces every Revolver on the grid to immediately fire all remaining bullets in sequence, only one can land per spin. The Refill symbol tops every Revolver back up to six bullets, again limited to one appearance per spin.

Free Spins

Landing scatter symbols during the base game triggers one of three free spin modes depending on how many land:

  • Gunslinger Spins (3 Scatters)

Six free spins where the xNudge multiplier carries over between spins rather than resetting. Landing a scatter during the round awards one additional spin.

  • Outlaw Spins2 (4 Scatters)

Eight free spins with all Gunslinger Spins mechanics intact, plus every Revolver lands fully loaded from the start.

  • Widowmaker Spins (5 Scatters)

The top-tier mode with ten free spins. In addition to everything Outlaw Spins offers, all Revolvers fire their remaining bullets before xNudge activation kicks in or when no more respins remain. Once all Revolvers have fired, wins generated by bullet hits no longer award additional respins.

Design and Theme

Tombstone Begins takes a cleaner, more understated approach to the Western aesthetic than its predecessors. The gritty, almost oppressive atmosphere of Tombstone RIP and Tombstone Slaughter is dialled back here, there are still skulls, pistols, and a crumbling frontier town in the backdrop, but the overall presentation feels more conventional and less visceral than fans of the series might expect.

The symbol set is split between Western-styled card royals (10 through Ace) on the lower end and a set of thematic premiums; knives, pistols, dynamite, cash bundles, and gold bar stacks — at the top. Wilds are present across all reels and match the gold bars in terms of payout value.

The Revolver symbols themselves are well animated, and the bullet-firing sequences give the game most of its visual energy. It is a polished production, just a quieter one than the Tombstone name might lead you to expect.

Wrap Up

Tombstone Begins is a deliberate step sideways for the series rather than another escalation. The Revolver mechanic is deep and satisfying, between bullet types, Unleash, Refill, and three tiers of free spins, there is plenty to get to grips with. The 20,000x cap and 96.02% RTP are both solid numbers, and the extensive buy menu means players have real flexibility in how they approach the game.

It will not scratch the same itch as the series’ previous titles for those chasing absolute maximums, but as a well-built, feature-rich high volatility slot, Tombstone Begins makes a strong case for itself on its own terms.
