Pragmatic Play Goes Live in Alberta as Province Opens Regulated iGaming Market
Pragmatic Play backs Alberta's iGaming launch with slots, live dealer tables, and game shows.

Alberta's regulated iGaming market officially opened on Monday, July 13, and Pragmatic Play was among the first suppliers through the door. The studio's casino content is now certified in the province, which becomes only the second in Canada to adopt a licensed, open-market model after Ontario.
A Crowded Starting Line
The launch is a big one by any measure. Fifty operators cleared the regulatory process in time for day one, alongside dozens of suppliers eager to stake out an early position. Pragmatic Play joins a field that includes High 5 Games, EveryMatrix, Octoplay, Kambi Group, and Oddin.gg — a lineup that suggests Alberta's market will be competitive from the outset rather than growing into it.
For content providers, being present at launch matters. The opening months of a newly regulated market typically bring a surge of player sign-ups, and studios with certified catalogs stand to capture that first wave of interest.
What Alberta Players Get
Pragmatic Play's certification covers both its slots catalog and its live casino vertical. On the slots side, recent releases such as Fury of Anubis and Big Bass Blast are available from day one, along with the ever-present Gates of Olympus series. Live casino players get the studio's blackjack, baccarat, and roulette tables plus its game show titles.
The studio's output is a selling point in itself — Pragmatic Play currently develops up to 8 new slots each month, with the full multi-product portfolio delivered to operators through a single API integration. That pace should keep Alberta lobbies stocked with fresh content well beyond launch week.
The Alberta offering also reflects a recently sharpened focus: Pragmatic Play wound down its bingo and sportsbook operations earlier this year to concentrate on its core online casino business.
Canada as a Long-Term Play
The move builds directly on the studio's Ontario presence, where it already supplies content to a number of tier-one operator brands. Director of PR Sharon McHugh called Alberta "an exciting new adventure for regulated iGaming in Canada" and said the studio was pleased to be among the first suppliers live from day one, framing the expansion as a continuation of its Ontario momentum and a long-term commitment to the Canadian market.
North America remains a strategic priority for Pragmatic Play, and Alberta is expected to become a meaningful contributor to the supplier's regional results — which explains the urgency in being live on opening day rather than following later.
